NGC Picture Happy New Year!

I can't believe it's 2014. Seems like it was just 2008. And 1999. And 1981. That's what happens when you're old enough to remember Jarts. If it seems like it's been forever since I've written to you, it has. I do believe my last newsletter went out around New Year's Day, 2013. It's been quiet, I guess, but I do have some BIG news and little news to share.

BIG NEWS!

When you have to chose between big and little, all good romance novelists go with big, right? So here it is: I am in the process of putting the finishing touches the first book of my first-ever time travel romance trilogy. If you like men in kilts (and I'm pretty sure you do), you're going to love this. The trilogy is called The Sirens of the Scottish Borderlands, and the first book is Just in Time for a Highlander. Look for it from Sourcebooks in February, 2015 (yes, that's 2015, not 2014). The heroines are three women with unusual standing in the eighteenth century Scottish borderlands. For example, one is a clan chieftess and another inherited a shipping business. For different reasons, each seeks the magic of a fortune teller in order to find a strong arm who can help her accomplish her goal. The women are not looking for love—what sort of man would fall in love a woman with more power than he has, after all? The men conjured are movers and shakers of the twenty-first century, but their skills mean little in the bloody-minded borderlands. Each hero has to reinvent himself in order to earn the heart and hand of his eighteenth century love.

I don't have a cover yet—though it's being shot very soon. I will share it with you as soon as I can.

POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF... DAVID CASSIDY!

In other news, I was very excited to see David Cassidy in concert in August. Somehow, he's gotten much older since the first time I saw him when I was in fifth grade in 1972. Unfortunately (Fortunately?), he doesn't rock the fringed white leather jumpsuit anymore (and I've put away the suede culottes and go-go boots.) He gave a great show to a very enthusiastic set of middle-aged women (like heart-paddle enthusiastic), many of whom had dragged their husbands along. I spared my husband that indignity, but I did attend the show with a David Cassidy-loving friend, and we had a blast. I think we can all agree if you woke up in love this morning, you probably went to sleep with David Cassidy on your mind.

Downton Abbey

TWEETING DOWNTON ABBEY TONIGHT! PROBABY RIGHT NOW!

I'm thrilled about the return of Downton Abbey tonight (9 pm EST.) I'll be tweeting it live throughout the season. If you'd like to follow along and you've never been on Twitter, it's easy. Sign up here
and follow @GwynCready. Then just type #downtonabbbey in the search box about a minute before the show begins. You'll see everyone's comments on the show, including mine. It's a ball watching the show and seeing what everyone thinks at the same time. Multi-layered entertainment at its best.

CONTEST!

Win a copy of one of my books (winner's choice). Click here to enter. Contest ends January 11.

We haven't ever talked about Outlander the mini-series yet. Prepare for an in-depth discussion about it in the next newsletter. For now, though, let me leave you with Sam Heughan, the actor cast as Jamie Fraser, telling us how to say “Sassenach.” I don't care what he says. When he looks in the camera and says it, I feel like fainting. Watch the video then take the Sam Heughan/Jamie Fraser “Temperature Check” survey.
